Updated: Jun 3

ree

A Frontend-middleware-backend/admin dev. project. SportblitZ mobile app for Google Play and Apple Store as frontend (flutter) with a middleware API engine connecting a robust backend, admin system (Angular, C#, .NET) Non-SQL and SQL for data storage.

Client: ItzyBlitz Media AB

A Swedish startup in the digital media industry, Budget for the project: 380K$

The Core Business Challenge/Opportunity (Why) While digital engagement among sports fans is massive and growing rapidly across numerous platforms (social media, streaming, apps), this engagement is highly "fragmented". Fans, especially younger, mobile-first audiences, lack a single, dedicated hub to easily access a curated mix of the diverse sports content they crave (news, video, podcasts).

SportBlitz seizes the significant opportunity to "capture and consolidate" this engagement by providing a unified, convenient, and engaging mobile experience tailored to the modern sports fan.

Project Objectives & Scope (The "What" & High-Level "How")

Core Objectives (The "What")

Launch a multi-lingual, mobile-first sports application (SportBlitz on iOS & Android) delivering a highly curated and personalized content experience for European sports fans focusing soccer.

Combat information overload, particularly in soccer news, by prioritizing quality and relevance over sheer volume.

Enable users to customize their content feed based on preferences for specific regions, sports, leagues, and teams.

Provide timely access to both fact-checked news articles and relevant video highlights.

Support core European languages (English, French, Portuguese, German, Spanish) at launch with a scalable architecture for efficient expansion into additional languages.

Project Scope & High-Level Approach (The "How")

Mobile Application: Developed a cross-platform mobile application using Flutter, focusing on a modern UX leveraging native device features.

A middleware API engine managing data between backend and frontend, both core content as news news articels, Youtube API videos and Podcast API suppliers. The API engine also manage drawer and navigation and menu text.

Network cash management. Network cash implementation to achieve the performance goals and requirements of the mobile app, The app is a thin client manging data from the API engine. This was a major challenge because of the tough requirements.

Backend System: Built a robust backend platform to manage content aggregation, processing, storage, and delivery via API:

News Content Integration:

Established a partnership and integrated with the AFP New ageny API DB, leveraging their feed of ~250 daily, fact-checked articles from established sport journalists.

Implemented a dedicated backend service to poll the AFP API every 15 minutes for near real-time updates.

Utilized a NoSQL document based DB (Couchbase) architecture, with separate databases per language, to store and manage articles content efficiently.

Established features in backend admin (Angular, .net, C#) to administrate and push article from other news agency using MS SQL as DB storage.

Developed writer tool/editor in backend admin for freelance journalist creation and publishing of our own articles, using MS SQL as DB storage

Video Content Integration: Integrated with the YouTube API to fetch and display relevant, targeted video content online based on user personalization criteria (region, sport, league, team channels) also administrated from backend admin.

Personalization Engine: Developed backend logic and API endpoints to filter and deliver news articles and video suggestions according to user-defined preferences.

Multi-Language & Translation:

Launched natively supporting English, French, Portuguese, German, and Spanish content streams.

Implemented an automated translation workflow leveraging Google AI Translate and AI-driven rewriting capabilities to adapt English-source content for other targeted European languages, enabling rapid language expansion.

Content Management: Included backend administration tools (as detailed previously) for managing API keys, YouTube channel lists, potentially overseeing translations, and handling manually added content.

Budget and forecast

Current spending is 330K$ and the forecast for delivery is 350K$ (Budget 380K$)
